Planning for Saturday's Trek

Kuala Lumpur is known to have pockets of forested area within the city. Amidst the rising skycrapers around the city center, you'd see lush greeneries and one example is the one you'll find near Bukit Nanas Monorail Station, which is also called Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve.

I always pass this area when I go to Bukit Bintang via the LRT and Monorail. One instance, I took a picture of the trail map for the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve  and looking at it, seems like it's worth a try walking up the hill, there a bird watching platform, a hanging bridge and a rest area. The trail up leads you to Menara KL, and the trail going down leads you to Rajah Chulan.

Hopefully this coming Saturday, I am going to give the trail a try and see if my legs are up to the challenge.

Live Long and Prosper

If you are a Trekkie Fan you'll probably instantly recognize my blog title. For those who are not familiar with it, well, it is a form of Vulcan greeting of Mr. Spock, yeah the pointy ears overgrown elf commander of USS Enterprise.

I'm grinning while I'm writing this, it's because I was able to watch the movie last night on the
big screen! After having a hearty yummy creamy lasagna from Cafe Milano at the Suria Foodcourt, I went up to the Kinokuniya Bookstore to browse some book titles, then went out right around 8pm. While I passed by the Movie Theater section of the Suria Mall, out of curiosity I checked the TV screens showing which movies are being shown and which times and I saw Start Trek is on the menu! I know the regular screening for Star Trek was today May 08, surprised... I thought maybe they are doing an advance screening, so without any hesitation I went to the booth to get a ticket and luckily there were still available seat and I was able to get a very nice middle seat and oh... there were no queue... Once I got my ticket I kinda did a brisk walk going to the movie house as the screening time was 8pm and it was already 8pm.

What can I say about the film. First, it was really worth the 11ringgit I paid for, the scenes are action packed with bits and pieces of humour that will give you a good laugh. The sight of USS Enterprise is breathtaking, it makes me wanna go and enlist Star Fleet ha.ha.ha. Not to mention that the lady crew of USS Enterprise are wearing sexy uniforms!

I am not a Star Trek fan, I'm more of a Star Wars fan but... this latest film of Star Trek would sure win a lot of followers for the younger generation. The storyline was nice as it was deeply rooted on emotions and how it affects the personality of the main characters in the movie. It was nice seeing Leonard Nimoy reprising his role though as an older and from the future Mr. Spock.

I don't want to spoil anyone, so I wont divulge much of the story. I recommend that you watch it.

Live Long and Prosper!

Book Sale!

I saw this Book Sale going on in Ampang Park yesterday, and hastily went around the stands to take a look of the titles being sold. The sale actually has a variety of titles to choose from, fiction novels, historical fiction novels, literature books, children's books and coloring books and even self empowerment books. I didn't fancy buying anything yesterday though, but today... today is different.

I bought 3 hardbound books which to me would be a great read and a useful reference someday. Here they are;

All About Beer by Jan Hillesland
Printed 2005

I am a beer lover and an avid drinker too. I have read so many articles about beer yet never owned a book about it. So this buy makes it worthwhile, it is hardbound and not to mention that I bought it just for 10MYR (that is $2.85).

The book is in presented in full crisp photography, it also gives information on the earliest history of beer and beer related festivals like the Oktoberfest. Some of the best and know
n beer products in Europe and U.S.A. were also highlighted. Nifty information on the classification of Beers is a must read on this book. Well, I guess after going through the pages tonight, tomorrow I'll be a changed man, more Beer-savvy that is.

Container Gardens by Peter Mchoy & Stephanie Donaldson
Printed 2005

Gardening is one of those things that I would love doing in thee near future. I have some flowering and ornamental plants in my front yard and it's nice to see them grow and change before my very eyes. Hopefully this will enhance me with the proper knowledge on caring and basic plant propagation and probably get some ideas on how to
spice up our front yard.

The book contains photo illustrations and guides on container gardening. This is a real help for those living on very limited space yet want to incorporate greens in their homes. I bought this book for 39.90MYR ($11.4), I don't know if I got it in a good "sale price" but the leaflet says it is priced at 14.99 British Pounds.

The Da Vinci Code
Special Illustrated Collector's Editions by Dan Brown
Printed 2004

I've read the novel before the movie came out and I watched the movie via DVD. This novel is quite compelling and it will really give you a jolt or two on your Catholic beliefs. Dan Brown did a brilliant storyline here, supported by religious and historical facts (and fictions).

The book is also hardbound, and actual photographs of the historical locations are also presented as the story goes along. This is quite interesting as in the movie you won't be able to look at the historical sights because you are glued to the story and the scenes unfolding on each location. The storyline here is not as detailed on the regular novel but the photos gives the reader a sense of realism.

I got this book for
29.90MYR ($8.54). I searched on Amazon and a new one costs around $24 and $17 for pre-owned.

All three books were brand new by the way. Now the problem is when I bring this back home to the Philippines, they are heavy.

The Book Sale at Ampang Park will probably run throughout the week. Ampang Park by the way is a small shopping mall located in Jalan Ampang Road here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The place is accessible by MRT (Kelana Jaya Line) and only a station away from Suria KLCC (Petronas Tower), local buses also stops at Ampang Park.

Office Pictures

Office life is something that most of us are into now. Offices are becoming our second home away from home, believe it or not, most of our time is spent there just imagine a minimum requirement of 8hours a day Monday to Friday... and sometimes even on weekends when our "wicked bosses" wants us to report.

Anyways, I'll take you for a little peek on some areas of the office I am temporarily working here in Ramunia Yard, Malaysia.

This is the desk I am using, those pictures are not mine, they belong to my Chinese. I work as a Software/Database Administrator, so the laptops are really being used and not just a show off. The bigger one is mine, it's a Dell Studio 15 Laptop, and the smaller one belongs to my colleague, it's also a Dell, Dell Vostro 1310, a 13inch laptop, and very lightweight. the LCD screen at the background belongs to the Data Server, a HP Proliant ML115 server.

Now this one is the view from my back. Those desks and cubicles are where the different engineers working on the yard are working. Well the most important room the second one on the right and the next picture will tell you why. he.he.he.

This is why the second room is the most important one. It's because it is the Pantry Room! Here, the guys working in the office can get their/our daily dose of coffee, biscuits, cold drinking water and some cold sodas in the fridge. the good thing is that no one has to wash the dishes (glass, cups, utensils) as there is a designated person whose job is to keep this place clean and well maintained.

Presenting the ever reliable brewed coffee machine. Notice how clean the table is and look at that neatly piled cups... Now, don't you feel like having a good cup of coffee with that arrangement? By the way, I love the taste of the brewed coffee, I don't know what brand they are using, I just get my daily/hourly or whenever I feel like it fill.

I did said something about the fridge right? The guys maintaining the pantry makes is sure that this one is stuffed well at the start of the day. Dunno why, but it's always like that everyday. Maybe there's a special instruction to keep it that way and that is just good. Why? By lunch time we all have a chilled can of soda ready to pair up with our lunch!!!! And did I mention that those drinks are free?

Spaghetti Bolognese for Lunch!

Currently I am now here in Ramunia Yard, temporary filling in the work for a colleague who's on vacation leave. Usually the norm they have here for pack lunches is they order their lunch a week ahead for the one full week. There were just too many choices with the menu so I just asked my colleague to do the orders in my behalf, which in turn is quite fun as I don't know what kind of food will I be eating until I see it delivered at lunch.

Now for t
oday Tuesday, here is what I got.. spaghetti bolognese... yum!!!

Started workin
g here yesterday so for the record, what I got for lunch was this..
Chinese Fried Rice with Satay's on the Side

What will I have for lunch for tomorrow and the days to come... well it's anybody's guess, but definitely something to look forward to!

Bon appetit everyone!
